The da Vinci Robotic Surgical System is available thru Women’s Health Center of
Clarksville in cooperation with Gateway Medical Center. The purpose of robotic
technology is to convert open cases to a minimally invasive one. However, if procedures
can be performed by conventional laparoscopy without the robot then it may not be
cost-effective to use this is added technology.
The “robot” allows the physician the ability to offer patients a surgical approach
utilizing high-definition 3D vision with magnification of the surgical field. This, in
turn, may mean that major surgical procedures can be performed thru small
laparoscopy incisions on the abdomen.
There are numerous benefits of laparoscopic procedures over traditional open
surgery. Some of these include less blood loss, less pain, shorter hospital stay
and quicker return to normal activities. The da Vinci Robotic Surgical System can
be used for a number these gynecological surgical procedures to include
hysterectomy, myomectomy, adnexectomy, prolapsed vaginal vault repair and .
tubal reanastamosis. Many surgeons believe they can achieve the same end
results with conventional laparoscopy. The patient should discuss their options
with their doctor.
